Ensuring privacy is maintained
The first principle is to retain all the healthy mature trees around the perimeter of the site and where necessary to plant more. This will help to prevent overlooking from the new development into neighbouring properties.
The whole building will also be designed that windows and balconies are designed at angles to prevent direct overlooking with neighbouring properties.
PPC metal railings and fascias are proposed for balconies. In certain locations (such as open balconies facing onto the road) metal cladding is proposed to the front face of the balcony to increase privacy for users.
At ground floor, terraces would have low level brick walls – to match the main building – along with planting, which would delineate the public and private space, whilst still helping maintain active frontages.
