What will the building look like?
We are proposing a contemporary design that will fit in with the 1930’s architecture and the modern design of the adjacent Incuba hub. The aim is to help create a feature bookend to the north end of the High Street and thereby make the whole area feel new.
The building itself will have a series of set backs on the front elevation facing the High Street to soften the mass and visual impact of the scheme, whilst providing visual interest and a series of terraces which will help to create an active frontage.
Brick is proposed as th emain facing material – both to link to the local architecture and provide a robust and durable finish.
Some simple but effective detailing is proposed:
- Using 2 quite similar coloured bricks to help articulate the elevations without becoming garish.
- Using bands of alternate coloured bricks.
- Having recessed brick panels of varying depths.
